3. Multi-use Bridge

SETTING: Crossings of waterways 30' to 200' wide. Could be constructed in preserved open space created with parks, conservation subdivisions, or neo-traditional neighborhoods.

EXAMPLE: Johnnie Brook crossing in class 4 road right-of-way or whatever crossing point best achieves the needs of path users and farm operations.

OBJECTIVE: Connect trails and farmland on either side of watercourses such as Johnnie Brook.

DESIGN: Bridge 12' wide and strong enough to support maintenance, emergency, and farm vehicles and livestock, and long enough to span Johnnie Brook (40 plus feet).

IMPROVEMENTS: Option 1: adapt an historic metal truss bridge available from the Vermont Agency of Transportation. Option 2: construct new 10' wide bridge.

COST: Option 1: approximately $80,000 of which 80% is funded by federal transportation enhancements program with the local share being $320 per linear foot. Option 2: total cost of $370 per linear foot (might cost more to support heavy vehicles). Local share of both options could be reduced by grants-in-aid.
