9. Bridge for Road and PathSETTING: (Winooski) River crossings. EXAMPLES: Route 2 bridge and Jonesville bridge. OBJECTIVE: Separate motorized and non-motorized traffic on high volume/high speed roadway in order to provide safe passage for bicyclists and pedestrians crossing the river on the bridge and traveling along the river banks under the bridge. DESIGN: Ten feet wide path alongside and separated from the roadway by 42" igh steel railing (plus a 54" high railing overlooking the river). A 4' wide rustic shore path and/or an8-10' wide multi-use path can pass uner the bridge along the top of the river bank(s). |

IMPROVEMENTS: Add separate bicycle/pedestrian path to exisitng Route 2 bridge or incorporate into new bridge whether or not Route 2 is designated the Cross Vermont trail. Take advantage of space on riverbanks alongside bridge abutments to create rustic shore path and/or multi-use path beneath exisitng or new Route 2 and Jonesville bridges. COST: $500 + per linear foot. |
